Scene: The food court of the Paramus Park Mall circa 2002. My friend Kevin and I are wearing denim jackets (don't ask) and eating sticky buns from. We undergo extra icing cups. Mmmm.)
looking up at the large bronzed statue of a boy riding a turkey which presides regally over the food court
): I dunno. Maybe it's the turkey that founded Paramus.
According to a recent affix on the the turkey was not a discoverer but instead erected as an homage to Paramus whose label was derived from a Lenni Lenape Native American word meaning "land of the wild turkey"
That statue has been an icon of Paramus Park and has ALWAYS been here. They renovated the Mall to be more generic and new desire every other mall and moved the statue upstairs. If they got rid of that statue Paramus lay would cease to exist. They got rid of the great waterfall. Thanks to generic people who desire the same thing over and over. But Paramus Park is comfort great.

The go the chatter and the news from Rutgers Stadium and the RAC -- and everywhere in between.
surprise up on what’s 'growing on' in the Garden State with 'From the Ground Up' columnist Raymond Edel.
An insiders' view of competitive and recreational walking and running in North Jersey and beyond
John Kim of Paramus raises the roll as he crosses the goal line after hauling in a third quarter TD go in the Spartans 20-6 win over Belleville.
Paramus is now 4-2 and the NNJIL Division B call is probably on the line when they compete Passaic this week.
All photos courtesy of John Bentz my eternal thanks to him.
Paramus' defense closes in sorry can't tell any of the numbers.
The Spartans currently rank 3rd in North 1. Group 3 for power points and the way Mark and I see it they are pretty much assured of a spot. We were just ruminating over whether Dan Sabella is the Coach of the Year in North Jersey in 2007 but we also know there is still a long way to go and there are some pretty big match-ups in the upcoming weeks.
You experience. Belleville isn't chopped liver any more either they were 4-1 coming into this bet. They are also in the thick of things for a North 1. Group 4 playoff sight. I tip my hat to an old friend. Joe Fischer a former Montclair HS assistant who I covered when he became head instruct at MKA. He is now the Belleville head man.

So we've made it through one round of the football playoffs. Some surprises change surface some stunners at least judging by the scoreboard. And of course there was a lot of what we expected.
Let's act a look at who is left -- Jim Morgan (44) and the New Milford Knights are photo credit to The Record's Tariq Zehawi -- as far as our teams go and the early picks on who ordain be standing next Sunday leaving out Paterson Catholic of course. 'cause we're still not sure when the Cougars will play Morristown-Beard for the Non-Public Group 1 call:
Cresskill at Hasbrouck Heights: A ho-hummer for Heights vs. Pompton but what a thrilling victory for Cresskill to go and defeat Mountain Lakes on the road. Hats off to Cresskill's D and to QB Kyle Elliott (two TD runs a TD go). furnish the Cougars a lot of credit. I'm just wondering if they did a Cougar C on the handle afterward. The early choose: Hard to go against Cresskill with the way it played at Mountain Lakes but against Heights you must play come up in the secondary. I'm guessing Mountain Lakes did not be to test the Cresskill secondary until it was necessary. Right now I'm going with Heights.
New Milford at Hawthorne: Both teams won lopsided games in impressive make. New Milford's A. J. Scoppa had 296 yards rushing and Hawthorne's Steve Hein went for 310. They met in a consolation game last year with Hawthorne winning. 42-20. I expect the game to be closer than that with the difference being the running ability of Hawthorne QB Jim Zenock. If New Milford QB Rob Hackett -- not to mention senior FB Jose Correa -- can give the Bears something else to worry about the Knights ordain have a puncher's chance. The early pick: I'm going with Hawthorne. I said in the summer the Bears would be playing for a sectional championship and I'm sticking with my prediction.
Pascack Valley at Kittatinny: Great win for the Indians on the road at Lakeland on Friday night so now for the second straight year they continue to Sussex County as an underdog in the semifinals. What a performance by Matt Gray against Lakeland. The early pick: I'm going with PV trusting Craig Nielson and the NBIL to go finish off what Tenafly nearly did losing in OT.
River Dell at Lenape Valley: What a performance in a losing effort for Mahwah against Lenape Valley losing in double overtime. I'll give credit where it's due to Jon Fass of WGHT when my good friend compared the 39-yard handle goal that Mahwah booted to force overtime to a 50-yard go play as time expired. evaluate about it: many high school teams don't even impel extra points yet here was Mahwah drilling one that tied the bet. Drew Heissenbuttel the T-Birds' kicker deserves a shout-out.
OK on to River Dell great job by the Golden Hawks again. The early choose: I'll go with River Dell. It's the Golden Hawks' time.
Paramus at Wayne Valley: The Paramus D change state drink Teaneck's Rashad White last week and now takes aim at slowing down Valley's Matt Dortch. Undoubtedly the Wayne Valley offense has the potential to be much more diversified than Teaneck's. I asked Dan Sabella the Paramus coach if players and cheerleaders have targeted the malls in Paramus trying to convince vendors to accept them to create the windows blue and white -- remember his Bogota aggroup and its purple-and-gold brigade last year -- yet. Not yet. Sabella says although if Paramus wins this one they may rename the Garden express Plaza in his honor. My early pick: The more I want to choose Paramus the more I evaluate Wayne Valley is destined for a shot at the sectional crown.
Old Tappan at Wayne Hills: Rematch of the regular season showdown won by the Patriots who have now won 39 games in a row the longest streak in North Jersey. OT and Hills rocked and rolled in their respective openers and if we have to go approve to their first meeting the difference was Wayne Hills' ability to stretch the handle and make things happen. Jeremiah Kayal had his breakout game against OT the first measure and he has not slowed down since. The early pick: Wayne Hills athough I think this one goes right drink to the final whistle.
Ridgewood at Montclair: Good win for Ridgewood at Bloomfield and I'm glad to say I called it. Can the Maroons turn the tables on Montclair the way Montclair turned the tables on Eastside? Look. Ridgewood's offense was outstanding against Eastside in the regular season victory for the Maroons and it will need that write of performance against to defeat Montclair. The early choose: Like I've said. I thought Montclair was going to win this hold from the summer and I'll fasten with that until proven otherwise.
St. Joseph at Holy Spirit: I thought all along the talk of St. Joe's being overrated was a bit premature and it was as evidenced by the color Knights' great victory over Delbarton. Holy Spirit has gotten a lot of attention and for good cerebrate from what I'm told. Should be interesting to see how well the Green Knights travel. That will be a factor come Friday. The early pick: I want to choose Joe's. I really do because Holy Spirit is such an unknown for most of us in North Jersey but I won't until I get more info. Go with Holy animate for now.
Paul VI at Don Bosco: Dillon Romain gets overshadowed at times by Tony Jones. Guy Germinario and Brett Knief but there may not be a more valuable player on the Bosco offense. The four of them together are better than any one of them apart. The early pick: Bosco see you in Giants Stadium.
Bergen Catholic at St. Peter's Prep: More on this bet this week but the shockwaves entangle around North Jersey on Saturday was the news that Prep was down 21-17 at halftime in its opener. So much for that after Will forge took over. BC will have a major challenge on its hands but if the Crusaders play come up up front. I think they're in the bet. They need to act a page out of the Parcells playbook hold back the football with their line and keep Will Hill off the field. I know easier said than done but that's the way they've got to approach it. The early pick: BC will show up exceed than measure year no question but I'm still not decided on this one. label it a draw for now.
Thanks for the read Art. Tell Cooper that gymnastics season is over and to get into football mode. I wanna comprehend his insight on the semifinals since he does all of his writing on here rather than in the paper. If Rosen was here im sure he would undergo been all over that double overtime thriller yesterday instead of being in a gymnastics meet. Sad story boring writer..
